MVP Approach

This mental model focuses on launching a basic version of an idea or product—a Minimum Viable Product (MVP)—to learn about its potential and improve it based on feedback.
The MVP Approach is all about testing the viability and potential of a product or idea by starting with its most basic version. The idea is to avoid spending a lot of time, money, and energy on building a full version only to find out later that it doesn't meet customers' needs or preferences. For example, if you have an idea for a software, instead of spending years developing it with all the bells and whistles, you start with an MVP, a version that does the core function and nothing else. You then release this to a small group of users, gather their feedback, and improve the product iteratively, ensuring it's something that they will find valuable.
