The Hooked Model
OBJECTIVE:
'The ultimate goal of a habit-forming product is to solve the user's pain by creating an association so that the user identifies the company's product or service as the source of relief.' - Nir Eyal, Hooked
A mental model specifically designed for product managers, focusing on user engagement and monetization through a pattern of trigger, action, variable reward, and investment.
The Hooked Model is a mental model that's extremely useful in product development and marketing. It involves creating a four-step loop - Trigger, Action, Variable Reward, and Investment. As a CPO, this is aimed to get users 'hooked' to your site or product. For instance, your story (be it a blog post, video, etc.) can serve as the trigger, prompting an action (user visiting the site). The variable reward can be the enjoyment of the story or discovery of products, which encourages user's further investment (sharing, subscribing, purchasing).
