Instant Gratification Inhibition

A mental model advising to periodically abstain from instant gratification sources, like social media or entertainment, to increase focus and motivation.
Instant Gratification Inhibition is a way to reset brain's reward center, typically overstimulated by the modern environment filled with social media, video games, fast food and other instant gratification sources. By consciously abstaining from these stimuli, one can regain the ability to appreciate less intensive, but more sustainable and satisfying rewards - like the feeling of accomplishing a substantial task or learning a new skill. For example, a person can set a 'digital detox' period, during which they don't use any electronic devices, enabling them to focus on tasks such as reading, learning, or physical exercise.
Instant gratification is an immediate, fleeting joy. True fulfillment comes from purposeful and sustained effort.
