Overcoming Selective Perception

Selective perception is a cognitive bias that causes one to only pay attention to information that confirms their beliefs while ignoring information that contradicts them. This mental model teaches methods to overcome it.
Overcoming selective perception involves consciously identifying and noting down one's biases, challenging them with contradicting information, and practicing empathy towards differing viewpoints. For instance, a person with a certain political bias might tend to only watch news from sources that support their views. By consciously choosing to watch and assess news from a variety of sources, including those opposing their bias, they effectively work on overcoming their selective perception.
