The Pyrrhic Victory: The Cost of Winning at All Costs

This mental model describes a situation where the cost of achieving a win outweighs the benefits of the victory itself.
In a Pyrrhic victory, an individual or groups strives so hard to win that the resources used up, the damage incurred, or the negative consequences of the victory outweigh the benefit. A clear example of a Pyrrhic victory would be a business that lands a massive project but has to scale its operations so much that its profit margin virtually disappears. After the successful execution of the project, the business may find it extremely difficult to scale down or may not be able to sustain operations, leading to bankruptcy.
